The Santa Fe Trail Center invites you and your students to the Santa Fe Trail Center for an exciting and memorable field trip! For reservations call 620-285-2054.

On-site we offer 90 minute tours and 30 minute porgrams. Large groups will be split into several small groups.

90 minute tour: 90 minute tour of the museum gallery and grounds. Tours cover the Santa Fe Trail and the settlement of Pawnee County, Kansas. Tours are appropriate for all ages and grade levels.

30 minute programs: Interactive programs based on Kansas State Educational Standards in History, Geography, and Reading.

Pre-school - Playful Pioneers (your senses of sight, smell, touch, sound, motion).
*1st – 3rd: A Child’s Life (19th Century school, chores, toys & games).
*1st – 3rd: Plains Indians - we explore the culture and effects of trade on 5 Native American tribes of the Great Plains.
*4th – 5th: Journey to Kansas (Euro-American Immigration) and Mountain Men – experience the life of a fur trapper.

The Santa Fe Trail Center is offering FREE educational programs to Pawnee County Schools! Please take advantage of this program.

Off-site: Can’t come for a visit? We can come to you! Our educator can bring 30-45 minute programs from the list to the left. Programs marked with an * are ready to travel. History box presentations are available for a flat fee of $10.00 (+ mileage for schools outside of Pawnee County).

High School and Middle School - Primary Source Programs: Our educator will introduce students to the concept of primary and secondary sources. Using copies of primary source documents from the Santa Fe Trail Center Archives students will put the information together to tell the story of local Larned residents. Students will also learn to ask critical thinking questions and evaluate the credibility of sources. The program includes a brief introduction to archival research – organization, call numbers, searching by title, keyword, and name.
