Kansas Day Celebration
January 27, 2p.m.
The Santa Fe Trail Center will host its Kansas Day celebration on Sunday, January 27 by offering free admission to the museum galleries throughout the day. A special program "Stories from the Barn" will be presented at 2:00 p.m. by Joyce Thierer of Emporia State University. The program is provided through the Speakers Bureau of the Kansas Humanities Council and is free of charge and open to the public.
Dr. Joyce Thierer specializes in the history of the American West with an emphasis on both argriculture and on rural women's lives in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Her program, "Stories from the Barn" will capture a few of the endless tales from the barns of our past and our imagination. Stories about hayloft swings and barn dances, rotten egg fights, courtships, and smoking "out behind the barn" are all part of the rural experience. The audience will have an opportunity to share barn stories as the barn is explored in both symbol and reality. Refreshments will be served after the program.
If you would like more information about the Kansas Day program please feel free to contact the Trail Center at (620) 285-2054 or museum@santafetrailcenter.org. You can aso learn more about Joyce Thierer by visiting http://www.rideintohistory.com/
