This schoolhouse was built in 1902 in the small town of Frizell, Kansas just south of Fort Larned. It was used as a one room school until 1966. Former students have been very generous in contributing to the maintenance and upkeep of the building. Its most famous student was Milburn Stone who played Doc Adams on the television series"Gunsmoke."
The 1929 Atchinson, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad depot on the museum's grounds was originally located in Frizell, Kansas serving the trunk line to Jetmore. Although it is not yet open to the public, a generous donation will make renovation a reality in the near future. Many artifacts have been donated to fill the depot once the exterior is ready to accommodate them. The public will be able to learn about the role of the railroad in settling the high plains.
